Its been almost one month from getting my Z back from the bodyshop (it was hit the first day i got it out from winter storage). It had been in the bodyshop almost 3 months while getting a complete respray in superwhite as well as a GTZ-R fascia and Type III sideskirts. The car turned out beautiful, I was so happy at the time. I also bought a few goodies for it, like a Greddy SP exhaust and an AshZ ECU. The last month I have been running 045 boost jets giving me about 13 psi with no problems. This weekend my local forums are holding a sponsored event at a drag strip about 2 1/2 hours from where i live (its the closest "good" track) Since I have never raced I decided it would be a great opportunity to experience it for the first time. We get to the track around 12 and its open passes, you can make as many as you want in the 4 hour period. I go through tech and get lined up, a few minutes later I'm lined up against an older Monte SS on the bottle. I give him the thumbs up in pure exccitement and then we both stage. I figure i dont even need to do the whole burn-out box thing, my khumo's blow! We get up to the light and go. My very first pass is a 14.0 @ 106 . Not too shabby for a first timer :) I'm so pumped after the adrenaline rush I decide about 5 mins later to go for my second run. This time i'm up against a supercharged Z06. I already knew I was going to lose but hey this is so much fun anyways!. We go and i get my doors blown off and i go up to pick up my time slip. Hey alot better this time. I run a 13.702@106 with a .518 reaction. Now im feeling great. I'm ready to shuck the helmet cuz I can hardly breathe with anticipation of going again, but wait. Whats that noise? Is that someones car on the track i'm mishearing because of my helmet or is it my car? click,click,click. Shit whats the problem now? I pull up to my pit area, and listen closely. At idle i dont hear anything. I give it some gas and knock,knock,knock.......Pop the hood, get under it and give it some gas. Louder knock,knock,knock.....fucking shit. I've just tossed a rod. Turns out no one has a trailer, so I have to catch a ride all the way home, come back with my brother and his trailer, and drive all the way back. I get home at 1:30 in the morning, completely dissapointed. It felt similar to like the first time you and your first love seperated. I know the Z is done for the year, probably for along time. I havent had any money really saved up for something this major to happen (car had been running great all 92k miles previously.) Now I'm at a crossroad. My brother is encouraging me to "build" it up going with newer forged rods, new seals/rings/gaskets, and probably a new crank if the one I have is butchered all to hell. Or I could just buy a replacement rod, and just do seals/rings/etc and whatever else is needed to get it going again. Sorry for the entirely too long rant, this weekend just screwed me every way possible :(
